WHY ARE SOME RECIPE MEASUREMENTS IN GRAMS AND SOME IN OUNCES?
I’ve collected recipes from trips to France, which uses the metric system as well as classes in the United States, which uses the imperial system. You can use an online converter to adjust a recipe. A calculator I found useful is located on the The Calculator.
HOW CAN I CONVERT CUPS TO GRAMS/OUNCES FOR FLOUR INGREDIENTS?
The weight of a cup of flour can differ substantially each time it is weighed. We only use King Arthur flour in our recipes as it is the closest to those found in France. and they have created an Ingredient Weight Chart, which shows the different measurements for each of their products.
WHAT KITCHEN TOOLS DO WE CONSIDER ESSENTIAL TO PRODUCE AN EXCELLENT RESULT?
The scale is the most important kitchen tool! You need the ability to weigh ingredients accurately, both in grams and ounces. They are fairly inexpensive and you can purchase them online. I recommend the OXO-5 lb. Scale with pull-out display.
Another important item, especially if you are baking bread, is the stand mixer. I only use KitchenAid – it is a valuable investment!
